From hand made wooden utensils, to hardwood floating shelves, and my favourite piece.... An entire bathroom cabinet. Hamish is a true craftsman. His work is an art form that is so rarely seen anymore. I am currently building a home and look forward to seeing a lot more of Hamish's craftsmanship throughout it......." Michelle Stephens " Having been an admirer of Hamish's wood work, I commissioned the design and manufacture of a hall stand to be constructed of some rough sawn Purple Heart that I had in my possession. Other than requesting a hall stand, all the design and composition was entrusted to Hamish. The Hall Stand is of contemporary minimalist design with a focus on highlighting the natural feature of the Purple Heart timber. The top of the stand and drawer fascias are of highly figured timber and are emphasised through the use of unfigured timber for the main carcass and legs. The drawers are of figured Purple Heart with concealed dovetail joins to figured Tasmanian Oak internals. The drawer pulls are hand carved Wenge with a rough carved finish to contrast and soften the precision high level of finish of the hall stand. The legs are fine Stiletto style of unfigured Purple Heart. The finish on the hall stand is a hand rubbed satin oil that is gloss enough to enhance the timbers figure but dull enough to remain understated. The drawer pulls and drawer internals have no finish to add another element of contrast to the piece. The level of craftsmanship and attention to detail is high and the level of finish of the piece including the undersides that are not visible unless scrutinized are flawless. I can highly recommend Hamish for all level of design, composition and finish for any project he is entrusted with." Steve Farrell Site © 2018 All images © 2018
